Of all Mercedes G class modifications produced from 1993 to 2017 real fuel consumption according to user ratings is approximately 11% higher compared to advertised consumption. For petrol engines real consumption is in average 10% higher, but for diesel engines is approximately 13% higher. Starting from 1993 Mercedes G class average difference between actual owner-reported fuel consumption and stated consumption was less than industry average, at 1994 it was significantly higher than average, at 2000 difference became similar to average and finally at 2012 difference between owner-reported and advertised fuel economy became less than industry average.
